Warwick East State School – Weekend Fire Relief Recovery
Weekend Fire Relief Recovery
After a devastating blaze tore through Warwick East State School on Queensland’s Southern Downs on July 19th, one of the oldest schools in the state was left with significant damage and loss of vital school facilities.
Fleetwood were called into action on the Friday afternoon by the Queensland Department of Education, looking for our help to bring the school’s facilities back to life. Despite the fire having broken out in a classroom during the student’s lunch break, we are so thankful all students (260) and staff were safely moved onto the oval and accounted for by emergency services while the fire engulfed the administration office, two classrooms and a further building.
A mammoth task lay ahead, with Fleetwood and our partners working around the clock to the early hours of Monday morning. The school was handed over for students to return without missing a day of school throughout the ordeal.
Fleetwood and the Warwick East State School are grateful to all partners who helped the local community in a time of need. The school is now back on its feet looking to a bigger and brighter future.
