Ipswich Hospital Fever Clinic (Court Street clinic)
Overview
In response to increased demand resulting from the Covid 19 pandemic, West Moreton Hospital and Health Service required a new facility to operate as a dedicated Fever Clinic. The new building would enable the hospital to bring COVID testing out of the main hospital space, where the current Fever Clinic had been operating from for more than 12 months. It would also allow for a larger undercover area for socially distanced testing queues, away from the rest of the hospital.
Solution
Fleetwood provided a full turnkey design and construct solution in just 14 weeks! Our team was in constant, close communication with the hospital during all phases of the project, carefully navigating a small site footing print and live hospital environment to ensure minimal disruption to ongoing patient care operations.
The facility consists of two modules, totalling an additional 150m2 internal and 79m2 of external (undercover) areas for the hospital. The purpose-built clinic features consultation rooms designed with the space to accommodate additional beds if needed. The building also has Code Blue, Code Black, nurse call and nurse assist call buttons installed. The amenities are fully integrated with the existing hospital buildings to improve patient flow.
Benefits
The hospital was able to quickly relocate into their new facility, with the building completed ahead of schedule, even with the disruption of COVID lockdowns. The clinic will enable the hospital to safely conduct testing, is easily accessible for those with wheelchairs and prams, and includes a dedicated drop-off zone.
The West Moreton Health maternity and children’s ward overlook the Fever clinic site as the two wings can be seen from the street. A detailed install guide and times were written for the nurses to explain to the children so they could follow along as they watched the buildings take shape.
