Fernbrooke State School

Overview

Fleetwood was contracted to deliver a design and construct solution for Fernbrooke State School that made up the first stage of a three-stage master plan to establish a long-term state of the art education hub for its students.

The multi-storey installation saw 34 modules delivered in just one and a half days plus a toilet block and nine loads of stairs. The permanent modular structure (1,500m2) is set for handover at the end of the 2020 year and will be ready for when classes resume first day back of term 1, 2021.

In addition to the delivery and installation of the permanent facility, Fleetwood completed the entire civil and site works package to the surrounding school grounds as part of the programme of works.

Solution

A full turnkey solution covering all aspects of the delivery of the project was provided with Fleetwood responsible for the initial site setup, the off-site prefabrication of the buildings along with onsite works including the entire civil package, landscaping to surrounding areas, inclusion of lifts, staircases and safe entry points to the facility along with all electrical and plumbing upgrades, fire access road to the street and a new entry into the school to deal with the extra flow of pedestrian traffic into the school due to Covid. The building is the prototype and catalyst for the future of the Queensland Department of Education’s Public Private Partnership (PPP) business model as the state moves exclusively to offsite modular construction for PPP. At the inception of the project it was the largest valued project ever procured for the Queensland Department of Education and the fourth project completed at this campus by Fleetwood over the last three years.

Benefits

The programme of works was delivered in record time (two weeks ahead of schedule). The building will now facilitate the rapid growth within the local area as enrolments have been steadily increasing over recent years. Furthermore, there was minimal disruption to the school community across the programme of works undertaken on campus, which allowed the school to continue with business as usual. With the challenges of Covid being mitigated by the majority of the build completed offsite in a controlled environment, we were able to meet all critical paths to ensure the school will open on time and fully functional.
