Changing the face of men’s health together

The Mo-ment we’ve all been waiting for is here – moustaches are back! This month, Fleetwood is proud to support Movember, a global movement to raise awareness and reduce the stigma around mens’ health.

Did you know that men are dying on average five years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons?

• A growing number of men – around 10.8M globally – are facing life with a prostate cancer diagnosis.
• Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men.
• Across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males accounting for 69% of all suicides.

These sobering statistics prove that men’s health is in crisis on a global scale, yet it’s rarely talked about. This month, as we reflect on Fleetwood’s Value in Focus; Collaboration, we are mobilising our workplace to explore the ways which we can collaborate to help Movember change and save lives.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), construction is the most male-dominated industry in Australia. Men make up the majority of our workforce, and as a leader in the sector, we are committed to champion men’s health by bringing our community together.

Fleetwood have been a strong supporter of Movember for many years. In the few years we have successfully raised over $100,000 of vital funds that contributes to over 1,250 men’s health projects globally, investing in research and support services for men while transforming the way health services engage and support men.

This year, we continue to challenge our community by inspiring everyone to have open and honest conversations about men’s health with the simplest icebreaker – the moustache! We’re encouraging everyone across Fleetwood to get involved with Movember. Mo Bros, Mo Sisters and non-binary Mos can all contribute equally through a number of fun and creative ways:

• Grow a moustache – if you’re up for the challenge!
• Get physically active by running or walking over the month; 60km for the 60 men we lose to suicide each hour across the world
• Collaborate with colleagues and do something fun, a quiz night, a tournament, you name it
• Pledge your donation via our Fleetwood Mo Space – in keeping with our One Fleetwood vision, we will not have separate State team pages this year. However we encourage each state to round up their group donation via their appointed team captains.

Your contribution and donation will help Movember unite experts from around the world to collaborate on projects that will fundamentally change the way men in need are treated and supported. Together as One Fleetwood, we can change the face of men’s health!
