Yallourn North Primary School
Overview
Fleetwood was contracted to deliver a design and construct solution for Yallourn North Primary School as part of the VSBA Permanent Modular Program. The school required a central hub for various learning environments plus staff and administration facilities for the start of the 2018 school year. The building replaced the schools ageing administration block and transportable classrooms that had been servicing the school in recent times. In addition to the delivery and installation of the facility, Fleetwood completed further landscaping works and an extension to the original designs whilst the project was being delivered.
Solution
The project was finished on a truncated timeline that saw all works completed over a four-month period. A full turnkey solution covering all aspects of the delivery of the project was provided with Fleetwood responsible for the initial site set-up and demolition of existing buildings, off-site prefabrication of the building plus all onsite works to surrounding areas. Fleetwood also provided the school with an undercover walk way linking the new facility to the school’s old facilities, provided a switchboard and fire services upgrade plus external decking from the rear of the building to allow for easy access and outdoor play areas for students.
Benefits
The school is now able to run most of its classes out of the permanent modular facility. The layout of the permanent modular building is conducive to a variety of teaching methods with large open learning spaces for group classes, a library, art room, multiple general learning areas and an administration hub for the students and teachers to enjoy. The school is part of the first group of government schools to boast state of the art permanent modular facilities as the Victorian Department of Education looks to provide the best learning environments possible for primary and secondary students in the years to come.
