Bay Life Op Shop
Overview
The Uniting Church sought to rebuild the beloved Match Factory Op Shop in Busselton WA, after losing the town staple to an electrical fire in early 2019. The new building was to be renamed the Bay Life Op Shop, built using the insurance payout from the devastating fire. Fleetwood was contracted to design, construct and install the brand new Op Shop at the same location, incorporating a number of custom features to allow for a smoother workflow during day-to-day operations.
Solution
In just four months, Fleetwood manufactured and delivered three modules, totalling 171 square meters (excluding verandas to front and rear) of new purpose-built shop space. As requested by the client, the building has direct access from the rear so that deliveries can be made and staff can now easily move between the rear storage areas and the main shop. A rear veranda was also installed as a gathering place for staff breaks and “tea and chats” with the local community. The new shop also includes an administration office, changing rooms, dedicated staff room, Universal Access Toilet (UAT) and kitchenette.
Benefits
The new Bay Life Op shop boasts an open plan design, creating more floor space on the shop floor. The purpose-built layout also includes floor to ceiling windows at the front of the building so that pedestrians are able to ‘window shop’ when passing by (and thereby be enticed into entering the store). The building design creates a pleasant, welcoming place for staff, volunteers and clients to continue to gather and run the Op Shop for the benefit of the local Busselton community. Armed with their new practical custom-designed layout, the Bay Life Op shop has arisen from the ashes to continue to serve the community for decades to come.
